## Quick answer

For a lupus-only app, Lupus Tracker and Lupus Journey log lupus symptoms, medicines and flares and make PDF reports, and SELF by LFA is free from the Lupus Foundation of America. Juno suits days when forms are too much: you say how you feel and it logs the details. No app here has been shown to predict a flare.

## Key takeaways

- Track fatigue, joint pain, rashes and other symptoms separately. One daily score hides too much.
- The lupus-only apps are small: SELF by LFA, Lupus Tracker and Lupus Journey each have fewer than 60 US App Store ratings, and Lycana doesn’t have enough to show a score yet.
- We found no app that has been shown to predict lupus flares, and lab results need your care team to interpret them.
- If you take hydroxychloroquine, note your eye-screening dates. The American Academy of Ophthalmology advises a baseline eye exam soon after you start.
- Our pick is Juno, for logging by voice or text, medication reminders and PDF reports for your rheumatologist. Juno is our own app.

## Which lupus app is best for what?

Lupus symptoms rarely move together, so pick an app that keeps them separate and still works on a bad day. Here are eight apps people with lupus can use, from lupus-only diaries to general trackers.

| App | Best for | What it logs | Medicines | Doctor reports | Price (US, Oct 2026) | App Store rating (28 Oct 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Juno | Saying how you feel when forms are too much | Symptoms, severity and context from what you type or say; compares symptoms with activities, medication and cycle | Reminders, doses marked as taken, medication history | PDF symptom reports | Free plan. Optional Juno Pro $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year | 4.8 (10,500+ ratings) |
| SELF by LFA | Free support from the Lupus Foundation of America | Trackers and self-management tips; questions answered by LFA health educators; age rating 18+ | Helps you manage medicines (no detail in the listing) | Not mentioned in the listing | Free | 3.0 (5 ratings) |
| Lupus Tracker | A detailed lupus diary with flare dates | Pain, fatigue, stiffness, swelling, rashes, fevers, mouth sores and brain fog; flare start and end dates and suspected triggers | Doses, schedules, reminders, missed doses and refills | PDF or CSV reports | Free download. Paid access in the app (yearly access listed at $39.99) | 3.9 (21 ratings) |
| Lupus Journey | Logging many lupus markers, including lab results | 80+ data points, including malar rash, hair thinning and UV exposure; lab markers such as ANA and anti-dsDNA; period tracker | Logs immunosuppressants, antimalarials and steroids | PDF summaries for your rheumatologist | Free download. Premium in the app, listed from $4.99 to $39.99, or $99.99 lifetime | 4.7 (54 ratings) |
| Lycana | Rash photos, lab charts and UV alerts | Body map, rash photos, lab results (C3, C4, anti-dsDNA, CRP, ESR), SLEDAI-2K timeline and a flare risk score; needs iOS 26 | Reminders, plus sun alerts that take your medicines and the UV index into account | Shareable PDF visit summary | Lycana Pro $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year after a 14-day free trial | Not enough ratings to show a score |
| MyTherapy | Medication reminders first | Symptom and pain diary, for example fatigue, pain or skin changes; the listing doesn’t mention lupus | Reminders, dose log and refill reminders | Health reports | Free. Optional ad-free subscription | 4.8 (8,500+ ratings) |
| Bearable | A custom diary with correlation charts | Pain level, location and duration, flare-ups and factors you choose; the listing doesn’t mention lupus | Medication log, side effects and reminders | Reports; data export | Free plan. Premium $6.99 a month or $34.99 a year | 4.8 (6,500+ ratings) |
| CareClinic | Many medicines, including tapering doses | Body-map pain log and flare-ups; lupus isn’t in its listed conditions | Reminders, refills and tapering doses | Documents and exports | Free download. Paid passes in the app | 4.2 (2,300+ ratings) |

Prices are standard US prices. Ratings are from each app’s US App Store listing on 28 October 2026, and features are as each listing describes them. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1) [\[2\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-2) [\[3\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-3) [\[4\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-4) [\[5\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-5) [\[6\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-6) [\[7\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-7) [\[8\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-8) [\[9\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-9) [\[10\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-10)

The lupus-only apps are new and have few ratings: SELF by LFA has 5, and Lycana hasn’t had enough to show a score. Lycana also needs iOS 26 or later. [\[2\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-2) [\[5\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-5) MyTherapy, Bearable and CareClinic are widely rated, but they are general trackers, and none of their listings mention lupus. [\[6\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-6) [\[7\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-7) [\[8\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-8)

## What should a lupus app record?

The NHS describes lupus as a long-term condition that causes joint pain, skin rashes and tiredness. Symptoms often flare up for a few weeks, sometimes longer, then settle down. [\[11\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-11) A good tracker gives each symptom its own entry rather than one daily score:

- **Fatigue**, with its own rating, not a tick box.
- **Joint and muscle pain**, stiffness and swelling, ideally by location.
- **Rashes**, especially ones that come on after time in the sun.
- **Colour changes in your fingers and toes** when you’re cold, anxious or stressed.
- **Mouth ulcers, hair loss, a high temperature and headaches.**
- **Medicines and sun exposure**, logged in the same place as your symptoms.

Fatigue deserves its own field. In a 2014 LUPUS UK survey of 2,527 members, fatigue or weakness was the symptom most often reported as interfering with daily activities (91%), followed by joint pain or swelling (77.4%). [\[12\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-12)

Two more things make a record useful. First, note what a symptom stopped you doing: a cancelled shift or an afternoon in bed tells your rheumatologist more than a pain score. Second, logging has to work on bad days, or your record will only show your good ones. Our [lupus symptom tracker page](https://junocompanion.com/chronic-illness-support/lupus) lists what to log, and if you’d rather start on paper, the [free flare log](https://junocompanion.com/free-resources-and-worksheets/flare-episode-log) gives you one page per flare.

## Can a lupus app predict flares?

We found no evidence that any app on this list can reliably predict a lupus flare. Lycana’s listing describes a flare risk score from 0 to 100 based on your logs, wearable data, lab trends and weather. [\[5\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-5) The listing doesn’t cite a study that tested it, so treat the score as the developer’s estimate, not a medical test.

Apps have also been weak on the kidneys. A 2022 review of app stores rated 17 lupus apps and gave them an average quality score of 2.7 out of 5, and none of them let people monitor kidney disease. [\[13\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-13) That gap matters: the same review notes that about 40% of adults with lupus develop lupus nephritis, a kidney complication. [\[13\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-13) Kidney checks stay with your care team.

Lab numbers need the same caution. The Johns Hopkins Lupus Center says the anti-dsDNA test can’t be used to monitor lupus activity, and that ANA levels can rise and fall without matching disease activity. [\[14\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-14) An app that charts these numbers can keep dates and results together, but your care team interprets them.

## How do you choose a lupus app?

These questions work on any app, including ones not on our list:

- **Medicines.** Can it remind you about hydroxychloroquine, steroids or methotrexate and keep a dose history? A history you can show beats one you rebuild from memory.
- **Screening dates.** If you take hydroxychloroquine, the American Academy of Ophthalmology advises a baseline eye exam soon after you start. It recommends yearly screening while you take it, though this may wait for the first five years if you have no significant risk factors. [\[15\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-15) [\[16\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-16) Somewhere to note those dates keeps them in view.
- **The bad-day test.** Can you log in under a minute, by voice if typing is too much, without being penalised for missed days?
- **Export.** Can you get a PDF or file out for your rheumatologist, or does your history stay in the app?
- **Privacy.** Read the privacy label on the App Store listing. It shows what the developer declares, and Apple doesn’t verify it. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1)
- **The free plan.** Is it usable on its own, or just a trial? If you’ll use the app for years, what’s free matters.

If you’re weighing two apps side by side, our [comparison pages](https://junocompanion.com/compare) set out the differences in logging, export and price.

## What should you bring to your rheumatologist?

The point of tracking is to arrive with a short, dated summary rather than rebuild months from memory in a short appointment. Bring:

- A symptom timeline since your last visit: how often, how bad, when flares started and ended, and what they stopped you doing.
- Your medicines and any dose changes, including steroids or immunosuppressants started or stopped.
- The dates of blood tests, urine tests and eye checks, so results can be read in order.
- Your questions, with the one that matters most first.
- A note on gaps: a missed day means no record, not a good day.

Lead with your main concern and keep the full log to hand in case your rheumatologist asks for it. Our [example report](https://junocompanion.com/example-report) shows what a finished summary looks like.

## Why is Juno our pick for lupus tracking?

Full disclosure: Juno is our own app. Here is why we’d choose it for everyday lupus tracking:

- **Logging without forms.** You type or say how the day is going, and Juno logs each symptom with its severity and context. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1)
- **Medicines.** Set reminders for hydroxychloroquine and your other medicines, mark doses as taken and review your medication history. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1) Juno doesn’t recommend or change doses; that stays with your rheumatologist. [\[17\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-17)
- **Patterns in context.** Juno compares your symptoms with activities, medication and cycle information, so a pattern around your flares is easier to spot and discuss. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1)
- **A report for your rheumatologist.** Juno creates PDF symptom reports to share with your care team. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1)
- **Your other data.** Juno can bring in data from Apple Health, Oura, Garmin and other wearables and health platforms. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1) [\[18\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-18)

Juno is free to start: symptom tracking, health insights and doctor reports are in the free plan, with limited AI chat. Juno Pro adds unlimited AI chat and enhanced memory, at a standard US price of $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year; your local price shows at checkout. [\[9\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-9) [\[18\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-18) Juno is rated 4.8 from more than 10,500 US App Store ratings. [\[1\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-1)

If rash photos, lab charts or UV alerts matter most to you, Lycana or Lupus Journey have dedicated fields and can sit alongside Juno. [\[4\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-4) [\[5\]](https://junocompanion.com/blog/symptom-tracking/best-apps-for-lupus#source-5) Juno doesn’t predict flares, interpret lab results or replace your clinician. ## How did we choose these apps?

We included apps that name lupus on their US App Store listing, plus three widely used general trackers with symptom and medicine logs. Every fact about another app comes from its US App Store listing or its own website, checked on 28 October 2026. For Juno we used our own listing and site. This compares published features, prices and ratings. It isn’t a hands-on test of every paid plan, and no app here treats lupus.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an app made for lupus?

Yes. SELF by LFA is free and was developed by the Lupus Foundation of America. Lupus Tracker, Lupus Journey and Lycana are also built for lupus, with fields such as flares, rashes and lab results. General trackers such as Juno, Bearable and MyTherapy work too; Juno’s App Store listing names lupus among the conditions it supports.

### Can a lupus app predict flares?

We found no evidence that any app can reliably predict a lupus flare. Lycana’s flare risk score is the developer’s own estimate, and its listing doesn’t cite a study that tested it. A good app records when symptoms start, how bad they are and what was going on, so you and your rheumatologist can see patterns over time.

### What symptoms should a lupus app record?

Keep separate entries for fatigue, joint and muscle pain, rashes after sun, colour changes in your fingers and toes, mouth ulcers, hair loss, fever and headaches, plus medicines and sun exposure. In a LUPUS UK survey of 2,527 members, fatigue or weakness was the symptom most often reported as interfering with daily activities, at 91%.

### Are there free lupus apps?

Yes. SELF by LFA is free. Juno has a free plan that includes symptom tracking and doctor reports, with an optional Juno Pro subscription at a standard US price of $19.99 a month or $99.99 a year. MyTherapy, Bearable and CareClinic also have free versions. Check what the free plan includes before you rely on it.

### How often should I log lupus symptoms?

Log close to when symptoms happen rather than at the end of a long day, and keep entries short. A quick daily check-in, with more detail during flares, is easier to keep up than long forms. If you miss days, say so when you share your record, so gaps aren’t read as good days.

### Does hydroxychloroquine need eye checks?

Yes. The American Academy of Ophthalmology advises a baseline eye exam soon after starting hydroxychloroquine. It recommends yearly screening while you take it, though this may wait for the first five years if you have no significant risk factors. Your doctors set your schedule, so check it with them and note the dates where you track.

### What should I bring to a rheumatology appointment?

A short, dated summary since your last visit: when symptoms and flares happened, how bad they were, what they stopped you doing, your medicines and dose changes, and the dates of tests and eye checks. Put your main question first. Bring questions about lab results rather than conclusions, since numbers such as anti-dsDNA need interpreting.
